Leakage is very common in the early stages of breastfeeding. Nursing pads are a great breastfeeding item, put them in your regular or nursing bra, they absorb breast milk from leaking breasts, help prevent embarrassment, and protect your clothes from stains. So do you know what types of nursing pads are there?

1. Disposable Nursing Pads

Disposable nursing pads are designed to be worn once and discarded. They are available in a variety of shapes and thicknesses, and you can choose between different types to see which one you like best. Disposable nursing pads are also great for on-the-go or travel since you don't have to worry about washing them. However, disposables can be expensive because you have to keep buying new ones.

2. Reusable Nursing Pads

Reusable nursing pads are more cost-effective because you can wash them and use them over and over again. They are also environmentally friendly because you can reuse them without creating a lot of waste. But you'll have to buy multiple pairs because you'll need to replace them often.

3. Silicone pad

Silicone nursing pads do not absorb water, instead they apply light pressure to the breast to prevent leaks. Made from soft silicone, these pads have an adhesive surface that adheres directly to your breasts, so they can be worn with or without a bra.

4. Homemade Nursing Pads

Nursing pads can easily be made from a variety of items. You can cut a disposable diaper or sanitary napkin to fit your bra, use a handkerchief or other cotton material, fold it and place it over your breast. Or if you know how to sew, you can sew together layers of absorbent material to make a circle, or any other shape that feels comfortable to you. When making your own pads, avoid man-made materials and prefer 100% cotton fabrics, which absorb spills better and are soft against the skin.

5. Hydrogel Pads

Hydrogel pads are not for leaks, they are often used to help soothe and heal sore nipples, and you can keep them in the fridge or freezer for a cooling sensation. If you have sore, cracked nipples, hydrogel pads may help.
